  2. Day 2: Vientiane City Tour - Fly to LuangPrabang (B)

Today we will explore Vientiane- the charming and fascinating capital of Laos, one of the classic Indo Chinese cities which conjure up exotic images, with its intriguing mix of Lao, Thai, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, American and Soviet influences. Our visit will take you to the key sites: WatSisaket the city ‘s oldest surviving temple with thousands of silver and porcelain images in the gloriously authentic temple compound that offers you a glimpse into the Vientiane of the past, the next stop is Haw PhraKaeo. This large temple is beautiful both interior and exterior, it was built to house the famed Emerald Buddha in courtyards filled with frangipani trees.

Lunch at a local restaurant (on your own)

In the afternoon a stop at the older part of Morning market is recommended before the visit Pha That Luang. The giant golden stupa is a sight to see as the bright gold holds a sharp contrast to the pure blue sky. Next you will go to climb the Arc De Triomphe of Laos, Patuxai. The massive arch has a beautiful mosaic tiled ceiling and once at the top you can see for miles around Vientiane.

Then continue toWatVisoun – an unusual structure which represents the earliest Lao style.

Afterwards, pay a visit to Wat Mai, a beautiful temple located nearby Royal Palace and built in the 18th century. It is the largest and most richly decorated of the temples in LuangPrabang.

Pak Ou (mouth of the Ouriver) the Tham Ting (lower cave) and the ThamTheung (upper cave) are caves overlooking the founder name Mekong River. They are a group of caves on the right side of the Mekong river, It is then only a short distance from the caves to the village of Ban XangHai. Stop here to learn about LauLao (Lao whisky) and LauHai (Lao wine), before continuing down the Mekong to LuangPrabang. My friend and I had a great time in Laos. We found A Travel Mate very helpful. Our guides had great knowledge and spoke incredibly good English. We spent some times in Vientiane and Luang Pra Bang. Those places were not so fancy but well located and represented the real of Laos. All the hotels we stayed offered good breakfast. we were flexible to go out for our own meals as well. The domestic transportations gave us a great experience. The tour was worth the money. In the end we were both very happy with our tour. I would love… Read more »

A Travel Mate provides great packages that are flexible to our needs. We modified existing tour itineraries to fit our interests. The tour guides were knowledgeable, and went above and beyond when one of us lost our luggage when we arrived. Overall great tours and staff, and I highly recommend them.

Our family of 5 people booked this 5-day tour with A Travel Mate. We booked 3-star hotels which are fabulous and centrally located, nearby shopping malls, restaurants and other travel sites for short walks. Our guides are very friendly, high-educated, speaking good english and very enthusiastic. We love all travel sites added on the tour which are just so beautiful & truly highlights on the whole trip. We’ll come back one day & don’t hesitate to book this company again.

I would love to send our regards to A Travel Mate for accompanying us along the way. Out journey was great enough to memorize. The road from Luang Prabang to the Black Hmong Village wasn’t easy to drive, however, this is one of the best tour to get away the city. Thanks.

We were always made to feel comfortable as they all seemed to enjoy what they were doing. The standard of hotels was very good and all their staff members were efficient and friendly. The tour plan was very good and ensured we got to visit the most important sights in each location. Laos is a country that is still trying to build up their tourism. We found the people very polite and nice.

Spending time in Luang Prabang to visit some oldest temples and grand palaces with its long history shared by the tourguide. Then i went to Pak Ou Cave where was mysterious and fantastic cave inside. I learnt much about Laos culture and its religious belief when talking with the local or sharing when we were moving. This is a trust worthy company to have great time enjoyment.

The tour was setup very well: start in Vientiane and then via Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang. We really liked Luang Prabang, it’s a beautiful town and perfect to spend (and relax) a few days. The trip was great, a good combination of nature, culture and relaxation.
