Vang Vieng was first settled around 1353 as a staging post between Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Originally named Mouang Song after the body of the deceased King Phra Nha Phao of Phai Naam was seen floating down the river, the town was renamed Vang Vieng during French colonial rule in the 1890s.

Vang Vieng is a pristine landscape of limestone cliffs and paddy fields in northern Laos. This small town sits between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, on the Nam Song River. Itineraries Tour

At 08.30 am our local guide and driver will pick you at your hotel in Vientiane then we head to VangVieng, a small town next to the Nam Song River that is surrounded by jagged limestone karsts. Upon arrival in VangVieng, check in hotel.

In the afternoon at 14.00 pm we will start our trip to Tham Jung cave, the home for migrating people, who settled near the town’s southern MeuangXong Village to rise vegetables. The locals stumbled into the cavern during the civil war, while seeking refuge deep in the forest. Next we head to Tham Loup (Deep cave for cave exploration. This cave is known for its many stalagmites and stalactites. Back to hotel in late afternoon and relax.

Start your full day biking tour with the exploration of one of the most unusual caves in the area: ThamPhoukham, the highly auspicious and venerated “Cave of the Golden Crab”. Its hidden corridors are filled with an endless array of stalagmites and stalactites, besides underground lakes, deep wells and up to 80m high chimneys. Continuing westwards, the trail gets increasingly rough. We follow the narrow valley of the Houay San stream until the Pha Deng, namely “red cliff”, comes into sight to your right. The village of Phonxay is the first on the banks of the Nam Khouang. The road continues south as a dirt track in good condition running parallel to the Nam Khouang. At the crossroads in Ban Nathong Tai, the road to the Nam Song Bridge is met again. Back in hotel VangVieng.

Today we discover the nature beauty of Vang Vieng. We will be transferred shortly to the Khmu village of Viengsamay about 10 km north of Vang Vieng. From here we paddle downstream the Nam Song River. On the way we stop to explore some stunning caves, take a short trek and visit to the Organic Farm, where mulberry tea and a variety of fruit wines are produced. Back to Vang Vieng Town in the late afternoon.

Enjoy your last morning here then we depart back to Vientiane for your Departure.
